A Feather, Twice

Riley found a raven feather once.

It was that deep, glistening black that looks like it has indigo highlights. Amanda told him that her grandfather had feathers just like it decorated with colored beads. Amanda was the cute little girl that lived a few houses down and Riley spent nearly all of his time with her. Amanda’s grandfather was an “injun” (which made Amanda, like, quarter-injun). He was the old, wrinkley, tanned cliché kind that just barely accepted the world’s intrusions to his people’s tradition. He had animals and parts of animals and neat stone tools and knew the best things about the wilderness and he had proverbs for every situation (that noone really understood). He was the COOLEST grandfather ever, in Riley’s limited experience.
